Record the delights in your heart

nun-family-in-the-fall

I pulled out a journal that my mom sent me for my 40th birthday the other day.  There is so much for me to write and see and say, and I wanted to begin to record.

But pulling out my journal brought me back to the last several years of my life and marriage.

If you have followed this blog since its inception 3 years ago, you would know that my husband and I have had to work really hard at our marriage.

One point, while we were receiving professional help, my husband was journaling.  It was a good thing.  Yet is was a VERY depressing thing.

While it was both cathartic and healing—it was just SO SAD!

And every time I read it, it was hard to read.

Hard times in life are hard.  And we need to share them with someone we trust—but that doesn’t make it easy.

So when I pulled out my journal…during a hard day of just being me, being mommy, being wife, I decided to do something different.

I decided that I was going to write about the joys of my day.  And while my children sat screaming and crying and throwing fits, I remembered that ONE moment of the day where they were pure joy—

And I wrote that.

And I giggled while I wrote.

And I shared with my husband what I wrote.

And we smiled.

Through the tears, through the difficulties, through the hard—we smiled…because, really, there was something to smile about.

Take for example, my family photo above.  My 2-year-old delight (sarcasm inserted here) cried and pouted and shouted throughout our entire photo session.  She was tired.  She was sleeping.  And she is two.  TWO.  That, in itself, is an answer for everything 😉

She did not want to smile for any photo.  It was impossible.  And as much as we tried, we just could not get that ideal and dreamy family photo that I had envisioned on the drive to the palace gardens where we were taking photos.

So we had to come to the conclusion to either leave her out of photos or just go with the flow.

And we did both.

When she wasn’t in the photos, we clicked magnificence.

When she was, we just had so much fun with her two year old pouty expressions…capturing not perfection but real life.

At the end of the day, when the gardens were about to be locked up, we wandered to the exit and just let the children run and play.  After all, they could get dirty now that mom had what she wanted.  That is when the sun actually came out.

No, dusk was on the horizon, but our 2-year-old Josephine ran and played and laughed and smiled.

And that is when my husband took back out the camera that he had already packed away and started to shoot.

And that’s when we saw her smile.

You know…It’s good to record life.  The ups and downs and all arounds.

But sometimes we especially need to record the joys—because they remind us to smile!

Truth with Toddlers

toddlers

As most of you know, I have 3 children.  Three miraculous children.  Amazing, really.

One is 9.  Her name is Adelyne.  She’s awesome.

The next is Maxwell.  He’s 3.  He’s awesome.

The last is Josephine.  She literally just turned 2.  She’s awesome.

And my home is messy.  And naked (meaning most of us most days—no, we are not a nudist colony on purpose).  And, more often than not, my children watch too much television and eat way too much toast (that’s a step up from plain bread in my home, folks.  Step up.  Booyah!)…

And yet it is so stinking lively and fun.

My husband is currently in an Asian country far and away to receive surgery for his knee (it’s a closer and better price than sending him to the US)…and I am yet again alone.

But with toddlers are you ever REALLY alone?

Heavens no!

This morning, as my son woke up screaming because he NEEDS his momma—waking toddler youngest…I dragged them both into bed with me, where none of us then went back to sleep.

And soon I hear toddler youngest screaming, as I am finally drifting slowly into a peaceful semi-awake slumber—No!  Those are my TOES!

Yes, toes, my friends.  Her brother looked at her toes…

Later, after I finally dragged us all out of bed.  My youngest pulled out his bubble gun that makes fluffing noises (as in passing gas).

He asked, “What’s that noise, Momma?”

“That’s farter-warter noises,” I responded (our way of saying fluffer-wuffers ;))

“Oh—Farter-warters like MOMMA!”  He then proceeded to shout with glee.

There is a time for every season under the sun—and, I have to admit, while this time in my life is tiring and busy and messy and everything else related to having Littles…

I would never want to miss this season under the sun.

Oh how I love my truthful, NO shouting, honest speaking toddlers.

They make my heart complete!

My Sweet Littles Saying Their Prayers and Dancing on Couches!

You must think that I only have two children with the fact that only Josephine and Maxwell appear to be in my videos.  Sometimes I feel as if I only have two children.  But I actually have three:  Sweet Adelyne, as well.  It’s just that, at 9 years of age, Sweet Adelyne has the most social of social calendars of ANYONE I know.  Not just of 9 year olds. Of anyone—9 or 90—that I know.

It’s awesome fabulous—because, you know, we live in this foreign land called Poland.  And it’s awesome fabulous that my daughter is not a foreigner in this foreign land—she is a Pole.  A proud one.  And she lives her life as a full-blown Polish gal.  Romping, playing, going to school, studying, extra curricular activities, and so forth.

She breathes White and Red.  I am so thankful to God for that!

But that also means when I am at home being Mommy 24/7…(last night daddy actually was home and by 6pm, so we had family pizza night.  twas awesome!)…

familypizzanight

Anyhow…As I play this magical and amazing role of Mommy 24/7, I tend to video those subjects most around me:  Which would continue to explain the absence of Adelyne and Richard 🙂  Neither tend to be around me that often…

Hmmm?????  Perhaps it’s me?!  Haha!

Once again, I really hope you enjoy the videos of the Littles that steal my every moment—even my potty breaks.  But they fill my life with such amazing miraculous wonder, I can’t help but love my every minute.

Here continues the sweet adventures of my Littles, Jo and Max!  Enjoy.

GoGo, will you dance with me?  Asks her awesome Big Bro Maxwell!

Trying to get two toddlers that share a room to settle down and pray is oh so stinking sweet!

I walk into the living room and find Max on top of the couch dancing to Christmas music (yes—we’ve been playing it ever since the chill hit the air!).

I wish you all well and lots of warm love, Christmas music, and overall contentment with where God has placed you in life.

xo for now,

Laundry Mountain and Maxwell with his pretty shoes.

When you have one boy and two girls, you will most likely see your boy dressing as a girl than the other way around.  Now, mind you, he will have a wooden sword in one hand while prancing in pretty silver shoes at the same time.

But you do see his Batman underwear, right?

It’s like he’s all boy — with a dainty side 😉

Anyhow, I thought you may enjoy my laundry adventures with Max and Jo.  Which pretty much means I get no laundry done.

But I get the moments of love with my kids (although I am sure Josephine was feeling a little too loved tonight).

Have a great day and enjoy the episodes of Laundry Mountain!

Laundry Mountain and Maxwell Pretty Shoes!

Snow angels in the clothes!

GoGo my special sister!  Declares Maxwell.  Jo does NOT feel the love tonight 😉

I am a SAHM.  I should get used to it.

I am a working mom—yet find myself home nearly every day with my kids.  And it’s glorious but not glamorous.

I had a lot of fun one day documenting segments of my day with my kids.

Here is my glorious but definitely not glamorous life.

Get popcorn!

Xob

What you do for your children’s critters!

Is Cami finally happy 😉 ?  Nah.

Two kittens found their way into our basement.  The kids were thrilled!

Seriously—my bald baby has no idea how disgustingly dirty our basement floor actually is.  Gag!

If I wasn’t already the overly tired nearly 40 yr old mother of toddlers—I would have more energy for this 😉

Yes…to reiterate—I am wearing clothes.  Just meant I couldn’t head outside because was too chilly for my basketball shorts, tank top, and flip flops 😉

I actually filmed so many more but they refused to download.  Perhaps it was an electronic rebellion,eh?!

God bless—and kiss those crazy babies.  Glamorous or glorious—all moments are treasures.

This is my life…

well, i just always want to write, but my mind is one huge blank sheet of paper.  so tired.  and pretty much filled with only toddlers.

yes, i would love to say that they are inspirational writing prompts—but, really, they are simply just inspirational life suckers 😉

take last night—we finally arrive home after an entire afternoon celebrating children’s day in kalisz (a couple hours from our home) when i throw them in the bathtub thinking that they’ll love to play.  before long, the bathtub stinks and the water is colored.

sure enough.  josephine soiled our tub.

so i pull out two wet babies and take them to the shower now—draining the tub.  then they play for an hour in the shower.

as i pull them out, wrap towels around them and bring them to the living room to diaper them and put them in pjs for bed, josephine promptly went number one on the carpet.

then max—unpottytrained max—decided that peeing on the carpet looked like fun, so he said, now i go pee pee here (and proceeded to pretend pee on the carpet).

yes.  my mind is blank.

but happy.

and my children are poopy messes.

but happy.

and this is all i can write—because my brain functions not.

oh—and our dogs are locked up all day during our home renovations and the minute they got out they broke the neighbor dogs leg by jumping all over it (yes, the dog is fine and the vet fixed the leg and we paid for the leg and the dog is still happy—so PHEW there :)).

yes…i wonder why i can’t write?

no, i pretty much know why 🙂

hope you enjoy our photos anyway.  haha!

xoxo from here to there,

b

(messy josephine after a good day of playing in the dirt and eating oreos…and the new life center—see bread of life ministries on Facebook—and max butt naked but phased out.  yes.  this is my life and i THANK GOD for it.  truly.)

Happy…Happy…Happy, Jack!

Total Duck Dynasty Fan…but today’s not about them, ya’ll!  Even though I do waddle like a duck, and we are family!  (Well, maybe you and I aren’t, but Jenny and I are—pictured above).

So, the beautiful tiny lady next to me is my super awesome and lovely sister-in-law.  But we always tell her that she’s the sister, my brother is the in-law!  Just kidding.  That just goes to show how much we love that lady!

And something fun…She is also a geriatric pregnant lady!  Woot-woot.  Wait.  How come she looks so much better than I?  Hmmmm.  Better check into her secrets 😉

Anyhow, we had a bit of fun today.  We both had doctor appointments.  Her 14th week.  My 33rd week.  We go to the same office, and after we saw each other at my parents house.  We were visiting my dad who just had massive back surgery.  By the way, he’s looking GREAT.  Thanks for asking (even though you didn’t).

And since we were both there at the same time, and I actually have makeup on, a bra on, and am actually in clothes (no, I don’t run around naked, but I do spend my entire bed rest days in comfy pjs), we thought we better seize the day and take a preggo picture together.  After all, with my cervix, no one knows how long my little Josephine is gonna hang in my utero.

But, let’s get back to the Happy, happy, happy!  Today I had a great visit.  Nope.  Cervix still ready for labor.  Good news, however, since I’m 33 weeks, I received the glorious news that I will only remain on “strict” bed rest for 1 more week.  That means I can do more than make a trip to the toilet, shower, or fridge.   Woo hoo.

But I did receive a gold star today.  I was told that for the last 2 weeks I have been a GREAT patient.  Yeah, baby!  Of course, you A2MC readers have also been getting the contraction pain and psyching myself out stories.  Oops.  Sorry.  Thanks for reading my episodes of preterm insanity.

Anyhoo…to end my happy day, I gotta share what the doc said to me today.

First, you should know that the office I attend has 7 doctors.  Any of the 7 can deliver you.  Therefore, as you near the end of your pregnancy, it’s a good idea to make sure that you meet them all.  Today was the first time I had the new doc.  A woman.  And she walks in all happy and smiling.  Like I said, I’ve been a good patient.  She tells me my baby, in my belly, is also happy, happy, happy with all of the kicks she counted in the time we were hooked up.  Gold Star to Josephine, too.

And then, she looks again at my chart and says, rather enthusiastically, “Oh WOW!   You’re 37?!  Congratulations!”

A compliment?  A proclamation of astonishment? I have no clue.

What is the appropriate response to such an enthusiastic proclamation?  A  High Five or some hand slapping?

Who knows.

In any case, it’s been a LONG two weeks since I got the news that my baby was ready to come ANY DAY!

And it’s been a long TWO weeks since my baby boy Maxwell was put down, grocery store was left for my husband to venture, and my feet went up…

But we’ve made it to week 33, and we are THRILLED!

Soon and very soon, we are going to have a baby.  Now, that doesn’t mean in 1 week, but in any case, she is baking, happy, and I am only 4 weeks now until I technically reach “full term”.

Totally stoked!

Even if she comes before, I know that my little pineapple will most likely come slightly chubby, rather healthy, and her parents will be definitely HAPPY!

Here’s to a great HUMP DAY to you, friends.

Hope the rest of your week will bring as GREAT of news as ours today did.

Big belly hugs to all of you out there in the cyber world.

xo for now…

B, my Belly Josephine, and the rest of my crazy clan:  Richard (the handsome baby daddy), Adelyne (the really big sister), and Maxwell (the 18-month-old smiling sunshine!)

Sitting pretty…with my feet propped.

So, it totally happened last night.  Our son.  He is an AWESOME sleeper but then…THEN it happened.  He awoke in the middle of the night.  Crying.  Sobbing.  Desperation.  Lots of coughing.  Tears.  Snot.  Truly, it was a tragic sight.

He really could have a future in theater with as much drama as he was throwing our way.  I can hear the Oscars now…And for lead male actor, “Maxwell Nungesser!”  Of course his acceptance speech would be dedicated to his mommy that encouraged his dramatic flair and laughed at his trembling lip and took pictures of his practiced cries!  Literally.  Practiced cries.  Did I mention that when we moved into this little farm house there was a mirror on the back of his door that faces his crib?  Oh, I didn’t.  Well, it is there, and I have found him practicing his cries in the mirror.  Red handed.  Can’t pull one over on the momma!  Boo-ya!  (Is that even how you spell Boo-ya?!)

But last night, at 3:30am, I heard the cries and got to do something close to heavenly…I got to poke Richard and say, “Honey…the baby is crying!”

Sweet!  There are perks in bed rest, eh?  After all, I technically can’t lift him out of his crib.  It’s not because I don’t have the muscle guns to do it…It’s because I have this thing called preterm labor is on our doorstep.

And, let me tell you, it is not a fun thing.  But at 3:30am, I think I may have been saying a short and sweet prayer about preterm labor rules to God.  Something along the lines of “Thank you, Lord, that Rich has to get out of bed!”

Can I insert a smiley face here?  Nah.  Too cruel?

Anyhow…My husband pulled himself out of bed and spent the rest of the entire NIGHT and MORNING entertaining our perfectly HAPPY child.  Who happened to be in a GREAT mood and wanted to PLAY, PLAY, PLAY!

I shut the door and went back to sleep, of course.  In fact, I didn’t even get my daughter out of bed for school this morning.  After all, Daddy was up.  Let him do it!

Oh man.  If only I could go shopping, I would buy my husband something NICE today.  He does deserve it.

Know what else?  On top of being awake since 3:30am chasing a baby around, he worked from home all day long (on his computer) while still managing to get one daughter out the door to school, keep one son entertained, keep one pregnant woman fed…and I took a LONG nap!

I do deserve it for being the first to hear Maxwell’s cries last night, right?!  Um.  Not really.  Good try, Brooke.  Good try.

And now I sit here on my computer (not working at all), enjoying social media and type-typing away while my husband got my daughter ready for soccer, Maxwell and his twelve million EpiPens packed, and off they went.  To soccer practice.  So, not only did I get to sleep last night, nap today, but I also get a glorious hour and a half to myself today.  In the house.  Alone.

I should really enjoy this hour because once my little Josephine pops right out, I am sure that I won’t see an hour like this for hmmmm….At least 365 days?!

Is it too early to start singing Christmas carols because I feel something at the tip of my tongue?

“Joy to the world!  Momma is alone!”

(“Unless…a big belly…counts!”  Keep singing to the above tune)…

I think that since most of the night feedings in our near future are going to be Richard poking me in the ribs saying, “There’s nothing I can do for Josephine,” I will continue to lounge and enjoy today.

Ah today.  It was a rather glorious, lazy day!

Just don’t tell my husband.

Alex the Lion nibbles on Adelyne…

Today was amazing—from the sounds of it on my Skype call with Rich.  They landed in Joburg late Monday night.  So today was their first day to start to explore…

Their explorations started with a trip to a lion park.  Anyhow…the cubs you could handle and hug and pet and play with.  One particular cub, Alex the Lion, really took to Ada…and her clothes.  In the video Richard sent me (that I can’t seem to upload here…bummer), I can’t tell if she is pleased or annoyed.  But her daddy said that later in the day all she could talk about was how fun it was to hold Alex the Lion!

And then they made their way to the “lion walk” with the 1-yr-old lions.  Ummm…The guide gave Rich strict instructions to “Keep Adelyne Close!”

Rich said it was a GOOD thing he did.  As soon as they entered, he said the lions got down on their haunches and began to creep toward her.  I guess she is more “bite sized” eh?  But the closer Richard got to Adelyne, the more intimidated they were, and they backed away.  I guess he is still too big of a meal for 1-yr-old lions.  Roar!

After the lion park, they headed to their game park where they’re staying for two days.  They got to swim, go on a night safari, and eat outside under oil lanterns!

Man…can we say, “Momma be jealous”?  I can!

During the night safari, the guide tossed food to the crocs…Rich said the water became a ripple of activity.  It was fascinating.  And then during the Safari drive, they actually spotted White Rhinos!  One even had a baby.  Rich said a tusk of another was a good 2+ feet in length.  Amazing!

What does Adelyne hope for in the next two days?  Adelyne hopes to get close enough to a giraffe to ride its back.

What a crazy explorer she’ll make—She should’ve been stranded in the movie Swiss Family Robinson.

Anyhow, it was a short but awesome Skype convo between me and my man.

Tomorrow they get to become like the cowboys of the National Geographic.  They are joining a “round up”!  True that. (Why am I going all old school talk on you all, I don’t know…Jet lag?  Oh wait.  I didn’t go anywhere 😉 )

Back to the “round up”.  I guess that there are too many animals on one reserve, so the helicopters will come and herd the animals into different crates to be taken to wider, more open spaces.  Just like Marty’s dream in Madagascar, eh?  Wide, open spaces!

I think that Rich is as excited about this next one as Adelyne!  There is a bit of AZ cowboy in him ready to go all “Yeehaw” on the zebras’ behinds.

Anyhow…One more day of South African exploring before they head into Botswana for a multi-day joyful wedding celebration.

I’ll keep you as updated as I myself am 🙂  (which means not too terribly updated).

Hugs for now…And lion kisses…Much like those Alex the Lion gave Adelyne.

Munch.  Munch!
